Charles was struggling in school and at home. He was sent out of class almost daily and often fought with his brother and mom. Charles' mom wanted to provide him with the opportunity to learn structure, goals, and life values.
Toby, Charles' Big Sister, wanted to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters because she likes interacting with children and watching them grow. She also believes strongly in the power of giving back.
Little Brother Charles has now been matched with his Big Sister for almost 2 years. With Big Sister Toby's help, Charles is learning healthier ways to express himself and communicate with adults, peers, and family members. He says that the best thing Toby has taught him "is to be nice to people." Charles has also learned how to be a part of a team after Toby enrolled him in a sports camp. The pair like to play basketball with Brian, Toby's husband, and Hogan, Toby's dog.
