Landon moved from Oklahoma to Columbia with his mother and brother three years ago. His parents were in the midst of a divorce and during the transition, Landon’s mother, Rebecca, says Landon was “very sad, very angry, and very defiant.” The family had left his Dad behind in Oklahoma to have a new start. Landon didn’t understand what was going on around him and his mother wanted to do something more for him, so she enrolled Landon in Big Brothers Big Sisters to have him matched with a male role model. Landon was soon matched with Rob, a retired father of two teenage daughters.

When first matched with Rob, Landon hated reading. His mother hoped for that to change through Landon’s involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters. To help Landon overcome his dislike of reading, Big Brother Rob tried to engage Landon in reading by taking him to comic book stores.

Rob’s strategy worked. At a recent BBBS Match Event, the kids were sent on a scavenger hunt where they had to take pictures of answers to a variety of clues or questions. One of these questions was to “take a picture of something that you carry with you every day.” Can you image Rob’s pride when the picture that Landon submitted was of a book?

You can help Little Brother Landon stay on track with Big Brother Rob by donating today!
